Saturday with Young Adults in Rye

Recently, Fr. Jorge O’bregon led a Young Adult retreat in Rye, New York. Sharing in adoration of our Blessed Eucharist, Confession, and fellowship with one another, 14 young men and women left the retreat with a gift of “meaning.” Below is a personal testimony.

Today we had a great Young Adult retreat at the Legionaries of Christ Cmmunity House in Rye, NY. We started the day with some coffee and cookies. We then went for an enriching time at the chapel for some adoration. Fr Jorge spoke to us about the meaning of being a gift and how it relates to the meaning of our lives.

He talked about the importance of thinking about eternity. He emphasized the need to prioritize reason (illuminated by faith) over one’s own passions and emotional reasoning. We then had some time to reflect before the Blessed Sacrament and for Confession.

The big talk of the day emphasized the great problem of today’s society: over-anxiety. This is caused because today’s average person does not know where he is going. He lacks clarity, and assumes that he should go wherever his passions and emotions lead him, which ends up hurting him even more. Fr. Jorge ended the talk by presenting the need to follow the person of Jesus over one’s own flawed will, as Jesus will never disappoint.

We ended up finishing the day with a delicious BBQ, during which we were all able to bond and talk. It was definitely a breath of fresh air from the chaos of the city.
