A Mission of Grace in the Heart of NYC

On Saturday, December 14th, I had the amazing opportunity to join young adults from Regnum Christi and my ECYD youth group in New York City for a mission. It was such an eye-opening and spiritual experience. Our mission was simple but meaningful. We stood outside the Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral and talked to strangers—anyone from teens to older people. As they walked by on their busy day, we tried to invite them into the church for a little prayer time, confession or even just give them a rosary to help them remember God throughout their day. As expected, not many people chose to listen or talk to us, however we still tried, and hopefully the little touch of the Holy Spirit we provided will blossom in the future.

We started the day by packing rosaries into small bags, and then we had a special ceremony where we each received a blessed mission cross. For many of us, it was our first time getting one, so it was a truly beautiful moment. Afterward, we split into groups. Two members of our group went with some of the young adults to one side of the block. The rest of us, along with another group of young adults, went to the other side.

It was such a powerful experience. We saw how crazy busy everyone’s life can be, but also how much people need time to connect with God. We all learned a lot from this experience, and it was fun for everyone.
