“Be” More Rather Than “Do” More

The Mass and BBQ held by the Legionary priests in Rye on June 30th was attended by a sizable group of 60 people.  It was held despite the rain, which didn’t dampen spirits one bit. In fact the rain kept the temperatures more moderate and it was delightful to celebrate mass outside under the tent. The beautiful Mass was con-celebrated by all the priests living in the community of Rye. Father Mark Haydu, presided over the mass and the homily was given by a new member of the community, Father Josef Hare.

Immediately following the mass, Lisa Rooney, RC Section Director for NY/CT, welcomed everyone to the event. She noted that we were bidding farewell to our Regnum Christi “busy season” and stepping into the “rest of summer” season. She thanked the RC members for all of their dedication, perseverance, and joyful service in the work of the many apostolates who helped so many encounter Christ this past year. She also encouraged all of us to just “be” more rather than “do” more this summer. She especially hoped we would find time to “rest” in the richness of the gifts and resources of Regnum Christi-to take time to scroll and “stroll” through the Regnum Christi website and open tabs we have never explored before; to dive into RC Spirituality, and comb through the study circles or curl up with one of the excellent RC essays; or pick up the new RC prayer book, compare it to the old one if you have it, and see where the waves of our movement have brought us.

Then Fr. Eric took this opportunity, while we were still gathered together, to say a blessing before we helped ourselves to the cold drinks and the inviting food that were waiting for us. It was such a great time, reuniting with our local Regnum Christi family to share stories and upcoming vacation plans. It’s always fun to have these gatherings and the priests are so generous to host us in their home.

Thanks to all of them and to all who made this event so enjoyable!
